Why buy DIY Boards?
Our DIY boards are sent out using the same materials we use to build our boards here at Slick Woody’s. Considering we have some of the highest quality boards in the world, you can guarantee you won’t find this type of quality anywhere.
The board tops come with unfinished ½” birch plywood. Baltic birch plywood is unique because of it's all-birch veneer core that's cross-banded and laminated with exterior grade glue, making for a superior stable sheet.
The frames on these boards are made of poplar hardwood which provides a sturdy base. All of the metal screws and hardware the boards come with are zinc coated, meaning they will maintain their durability.
These boards are an opportunity to build something on your own that you feel good about. You can put anything you want on these boards. Any images you want, any material you want to coat it with, and any other customization you would like to add.
Putting your boards together
Check out this video we made on putting together you DIY board or you can read through the steps below.
Step 1
-
Take one Long board frame and one Short board frame and join the two pieces together using two fastener screws. Place all pre-drilled holes in the same direction to assure correct frame construction.
-
Repeat four times until rectangle is formed as the frame of the board. A low impact power drill combined with a square drill bit is the ideal tool to use for this step.
Step 2 (fastening the board to the frame)
-
Use ten fastener screws to connect the board frame to the board top by using the power drill and square drill bit. Do not use too much pressure, or you will push screws through the board top.
-
Lay board on it’s top and place frame a half inch inside the board top.
Step 3 (fastening the folding leg to the frame)
-
Using the leg screw, insert it through the pre-drilled hole in the board frame and the pre-drilled hole in the board legs.
- Once inserted in both holes, use a wingnut to hold the legs to the frame.
Customizing your board
When it comes to customizing your DIY board, you have many different options. Some people choose to start off by staining their board to give it a protective coat and distinct color. Other people prefer to leave the wood as is.
Here at Slick Woody’s, we prefer to leave our boards how they are. By keeping the surface smooth as it is, we can provide a consistent playing surface. Regardless of weather or temperature conditions, our boards maintain the same type of playing surface.
As far as decorating the board you have many options. You can apply different decals and stickers or use a paint to customize your board. Spray paint or roll on paint are both great options for someone who wants to manually design their board. We do not recommend any coatings to our boards.
Glow in the dark paint is also an option if you want to have your boards glow at night. Adding a Slick Woody’s cornhole board light to your order could be a great idea if you are looking to play at nighttime as well. Check out this video on our cornhole lights and how to install them. These lights bring a whole new experience to the game of cornhole!
One of the things that make a DIY board awesome is the idea of designing something that you came up with and applying it yourself. A DIY board allows you to create something you will cherish forever.
Many people prefer the idea of creating their board themselves, rather than choosing a pre designed board. Your friends and family will love the self made designs you put on your board and you will be happy to show it off!
